That is, it is a regular item on our weekly grocery list and something we haven\u2019t yet committed to producing ourselves. But you will be surprised to know that there are various methods to keep milk fresh for a longer time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fortunately, there are a few methods for extending the life of milk. You\u2019ll be able to stretch your shopping budget and get a little more bang for your buck by doing so. There will be no more spoiled milk!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The majority of milk is thrown away because it isn\u2019t consumed in a timely manner \u2014 that should be obvious, right? However, we sometimes discard milk simply because it is approaching its use-by date and we believe it cannot be used beyond that date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To some extent, this is correct. But what if you could \u201csave\u201d that about-to-go-bad milk by freezing it instead?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Freeze milk to extend its shelf life. You can freeze it at any time before the expiration date. Do not attempt to freeze milk that has beyond its expiration date. Fill an airtight container or ice cube trays with it. You can even keep it in the original container if you don\u2019t mind the possibility of it leaking. This is an excellent method for storing milk and keeping it fresh for longer periods of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I do have one piece of advice for you, though. If you\u2019re only going to consume it in a glass, frozen and then thawed milk won\u2019t taste as good. Some of the fat separates throughout the freezing and thawing process, which isn\u2019t the best flavour in the world. If you only plan on using it in recipes or hot beverages, though, this suggestion will suffice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Refrigerating frozen milk for a day or two is the most effective technique to defrost it. If you\u2019re in a hurry, you can also place it in a bowl of cold water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Okay, we all know that milk should be kept in the refrigerator, but did you realise that it must be kept at a specific temperature? Milk should be kept in the refrigerator at a temperature of 32 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. If you go too far outside of this range, your milk will last only about half as long as it might.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another suggestion is to master the location of the milk in the refrigerator. Do not place it in the front entrance. It will be exposed to a wide range of temperatures here, causing it to spoil more quickly. The longer milk is in exposure to heated air, the less fresh it will get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When it comes to keeping milk fresh for longer, the coldest regions of the refrigerator are the best. Usually, the back and bottom are the places to look. Just make sure the fridge isn\u2019t too cold, or the milk will end up with ice chips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Okay, so maybe everyone already knows this trick. However, for those of you who are unaware, adding a pinch of salt to a gallon of milk will extend its shelf life. It doesn\u2019t matter if you use store-bought or homemade. The salt protects the milk and prevents it from spoiling as rapidly as it would otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can also put it in the freezer. To allow for expansion, pour a bit out before freezing. I attempt to put it to good use within two months. Allow it to thaw in the refrigerator for a few days or in a sink full of hot water when you\u2019re ready to use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What if you don\u2019t have any salt? You can also use a teaspoon of baking soda right away after opening the package. This will extend its shelf life by another week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
