There\u2019s a lot more to cattle than just being milk and meat providing animals. You may think that you have got them figured, but isn\u2019t necessarily the case. So what you have been with them for so long years; I mean what does that confirm, anyway? Till date researches are carried out on cattle to learn about them. And interestingly, every time they are coming up with new facts. Here are a few of them that are unlikely for us to know; at least I wasn\u2019t aware;<\/p>\n

  1. Have you heard about aurochs? They are extinct wild oxen, first domesticated in southeast Turkey 10, 500 years ago. The domestic cows are actually their descendants.<\/li>\n
  2. It was found by scientists that cattle have around 22,000 genes and interestingly 80% of the genes are shared with humans.<\/li>\n
  3. In many parts around the globe, cattle signify economic wealth.<\/li>\n
  4. Typically, cows spend almost 10 to 12 hours a day just lying down.<\/li>\n
  5. On an average a domestic cow sleeps 4 hours a day.<\/li>\n
  6. A milking cow consumes 100 pounds of feed every day.<\/li>\n
  7. In a recent study by Stanford University, it is found that livestock accounts between 18% and 51% of global greenhouse gas emissions.<\/li>\n
  8. Researchers have found that treating a cow as an individual and calling her by a name, she will produce around 500 pints of milk each year.<\/li>\n
  9. Cattle have 360 degrees of vision having blind spots in front of and behind.<\/li>\n
  10. Cattle cannot see the color red. Usually, red flags used by the matadors catch bulls\u2019 attention due to the movement.<\/li>\n
  11. Cows can detect odors almost 6 miles away.<\/li>\n
  12. Stunningly, cows too converse in regional accents. A group of dairy farmers found that cows have different moos based on the regions they are in.
